Staind to Release First New Album in 9 Years, ‘Live: It’s Been Awhile’
Staind will release a new live album, “Live: It’s Been Awhile,” in May, plus stream two live performances, one honoring the 20th anniversary of “Break the Cycle”
Aaron Lewis and Staind have announced a new album, which will mark the alt-metal band’s first release in nine years. The album, titled “Live: It’s Been Awhile,” is a live set featuring some of the band’s most popular songs over the years. It will arrive May 7 via via Yap’em / Alchemy Recordings.
In addition to the new album, Staind are plotting a two-part global streaming series in partnership with Danny Wimmer Presents. The series will set off on May 1 with Staind’s “Live: It’s Been Awhile (From Foxwoods).”
The live album and concert were both recorded during Staind’s monumental gig at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut, in October of 2019. The concert was the band’s first after a five-year hiatus.
“These were the first grouping of shows we played together in 2019, when we were gearing up for what was to be a very busy 2020…that never happened,” Lewis said in a statement. “I’m glad we captured that energy here and can share it with those who couldn’t be at Foxwoods.”
The day following the album’s release, Staind will honor the 20th anniversary of their seminal album Break The Cycle by performing it in its entirety during a May 8 stream.
“Our first show together in 1995 was at a now defunct bar called the Waterfront in Holyoke,” Lewis said. “We played mostly covers, because that’s what you had to do back then. Turns out The Waterfront is two miles from where we did this. Here we are, two miles down the road, 26 years later, celebrating the anniversary of the album that helped us break though 20 years ago and altered our lives forever.”
