Slash is back with his fourth solo album, appropriately titled “4,” and he says recording this album was a unique journey

Slash certainly has his plate full these days. The iconic guitarist has been touring consistently with Guns N’ Roses, and now, Slash has released a new song with song with Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators and announced a new album.

The new track, “The River is Rising,” offers a classic, raw rock ‘n’ roll character. It features Slash’s characteristic guitar soloing and lines, alongside Kennedy’s soaring tenor. Watch the official music video for “The River is Rising” below.

Slash’s new solo album will be called “4,” which is fitting, as it marks his fourth solo studio record. On “4,” Slash tapped Kennedy along with his alongside solo band mates Todd Kerns on bass, Frank Sidoris on guitar and Brent Fitz on drums. What sets this album apart from previous albums from Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators is that this one was recorded live.

“It has a very spontaneous, fun kind of thing to it, and I love that,” Slash said in a press release. “That’s really the major difference on this record – we did it more or less live, and the mistakes are all in there. It’s the sound of the five of us just jamming together in one room.”

Slash also states that most of his band mates came down with COVID-19 during the recording process, which was quite a surprise. Kennedy says the virus impacted his voice, which you can hear in some of the song.

“When I listen to a song like ‘The River Is Rising,’ by that point I was starting to get pretty sick,” Kennedy said in a statement. “You can hear it in my voice, how congested I was. But that’s part of what I think is really interesting about this record. We just let those imperfections lay. Because it’s all part of the story.”

The upcoming album isn’t just Slash’s fourth studio album, it’s also the first official release on Gibson Records. “4” will arrive Feb. 11, 2022. Pre-order the record here.

In other news, Slash and his band will set out on a North American tour beginning Feb. 8, 2022, in Portland, Oregon, and running through a March 26 date in Orlando, Florida. Tickets for the dates go on sale next Friday (Oct. 29) at 10 a.m. local venue time.
