Local Beat: This week’s column dishes on what local restaurants are open on Christmas Day

This week’s Local Beat focuses on something of great interest for those staying home for the holidays: food. If you’re opting to say in town on Christmas and don’t want to cook, a handful of Michigan restaurants plan to be open on Christmas Day to serve your needs.

Read on for a list of restaurants with Michigan locations staying open for the full holiday. As always, call ahead to your individual location to check on hours and any other Christmas specifications. Note that most restaurants are open on Christmas Eve, so if your favorite spot isn’t listed below, check your local spot before you give up.

Michigan Restaurants Open on Christmas Day

Boston Market

Boston Market is known for its holiday dinners, and many of the chain’s restaurants are open on Christmas Day, preparing those Christmas dinners. Some restaurants are only open for catering on Christmas Day, so make sure to call ahead. Boston Market offers chilled, fully cooked main dishes, sides and pies.

Denny’s

Sometimes breakfast for dinner hits the spot, especially on Christmas. Denny’s location are open nationwide every day of the year, including Christmas Eve and Christmas. You’ll find all the Denny’s breakfast favorites, such as the Grand Slam, as well as more traditional Christmas dinner options, such as turkey and dressing.

Domino’s Pizza

If you love pizza and are craving it on Christmas Day, there’s a good chance your local Domino’s Pizza will be there to help you get your fix. Many Domino’s Pizza locations will be open on Christmas Day for pickup and delivery. As always, call your local spot to confirm.

Dunkin’

No matter if you like your coffee hot or cold, you can pick it up at your local store on Dec. 24 and 25. Hours may vary, so check with your local spot. Plus, they have a delightful holiday menu with signature drinks!

Golden Corral

If you’re looking for a buffet-style Christmas dinner, then you’re in luck, as most Golden Corral restaurants are open Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. They’re offering everything from holiday glazed ham to whole roasted turkey with mashed potatoes and gravy, so it’s basically a traditional Christmas dinner, just not made in your kitchen.

IHOP

If pancakes sound like the perfect Christmas treat and you live near an IHOP, then note that IHOP restaurants are open Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Special items for the season include Winter Wonderland Pancakes, Cranberry Vanilla Pancakes and Pumpkin Spice Pancakes. Hours may vary by location, so check with your local restaurant first.

McDonald’s

McDonald’s will be open on Christmas, but hours may vary by location. Since many McDonald’s are franchises, the independent owners can make their hours, so you might find your local branch closed. That said, all corporate locations will be open, serving up everything from Big Macs to fries to soft-serve ice cream.

Perkins Restaurant & Bakery

Plenty of breakfast spots are open on Christmas Day, including Perkins. All Perkins locations are open on Christmas Eve, and the majority will be open on Christmas Day, offering their typical breakfast, as well as a special Christmas menu with a turkey dinner.

Starbucks

Those who need a good jolt of java on Christmas Day will find it at Starbucks. Rumor has it even Santa has pulled up to a Starbucks early in the morning, after making his deliveries around the world. While many locations will be open on Christmas Day, most will close early, between 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. local time.

Waffle House

Waffle House is known for always having its doors open, and that won’t change on Christmas Day. The breakfast spot will be open all day and night on Christmas, so feel free to stop by for a festive breakfast at any time of the day or night.
