The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has revealed its nominees for the class of 2022, and the tally includes Judas Priest, Rage Against the Machine, Eminem, New York Dolls, Pat Benatar, MC5 and more.

All in all, 17 acts have been nominated. View the full list below. Of the 2022 nominees, seven are in the running for the first time, including Eminem, Beck, Duran Duran, Dolly Parton, Lionel Richie, A Tribe Called Quest and Carly Simon.

“This year’s ballot recognizes a diverse group of incredible artists, each who has had a profound impact on the sound of youth culture,” John Sykes, chairman of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, said in a statement. “Their music not only moved generations, but also influenced the sound of countless artists that followed.”

Artists being nominated for the second consecutive time include Rage Against the Machine, New York Dolls, Kate Bush, DEVO and Fela Kuti. Other acts that have been nominated multiple times include Judas Priest and MC5. Last year’s class of inductees included Foo Fighters, The Go-Go’s, Jay-Z, Carole King, Todd Rundgren and Tina Turner.

So, what’s the criteria to get the honor? “To be eligible for nomination, an individual artist or band must have released its first commercial recording at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination,” a press release from the Rock Hall states. “Factors such as an artist’s musical influence on other artists, length and depth of career and the body of work, innovation, and superiority in style and technique are taken into consideration.”

As in previous years, fans are able to vote for their favorites to make the Rock Hall. The fan voting is open from today (Feb. 2) through April 29, and fans may vote each day at the Rock Hall website or in person at Ohio museum. The top five vote-earners will make up a special “fans’ ballot that will be part of the final ballot tally.
