Mastodon Release Full-Length Documentary, ‘The Making of Hushed and Grim’
Watch the 90-minute documentary heavy metal band Mastodon has release surrounding their latest album, “Hushed and Grim”
Atlanta metal titans Mastodon have unleashed a 90-minute, full-length documentary named The Making of Hushed and Grim. The film is available to watch in its entirety via YouTube below.
“The Making of Hushed and Grim” follows the band as they write and record their ninth studio album. It was an extra meaningful effort, as the album was largely influenced by the death of Mastodon’s longtime friend and manager Nick John.
The documentary shows the members of Mastodon as they craft “Hushed and Grim” and deal with the loss of their “band dad” John. The film, directed by Bryan Bankovich and produced by Newmerica, also shows band members recording for the first time in their own West End Sound studio and headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia.
“With producer David Bottrill (Peter Gabriel, Tool) at the helm, the musicians poured every drop of blood, sweat, and tears into a definitive paean to their staunchest champion and biggest fan with no shortage of twists and turns—as captured in the footage,” a press release states. “It’s humorous, heartfelt, honest, and wholeheartedly ‘Hushed and Grim.'”
“For as much as ‘Hushed and Grim’ is steeped in one of the darkest periods of the band’s career, its light shines through in a fully realized manifestation of not only everything Mastodon was, but everything Mastodon can be—and more,” a previous press releases states of “Hushed and Grim”
The release of the documentary comes at a good times for Mastodon, as the band is about to head out on their 2022 North American tour with fellow Grammy winners Ghost. The tour begins at Pechanga Arena in San Diego, California, on Friday (Aug. 26). Find tour dates for Mastodon and Ghost, as well as Mastodon’s other upcoming dates, here.
