Godsmack Readying New Album, ‘Lighting Up the Sky’
Godsmack write about “boy-meets-girl, obstacles in relationships” on their new album, “Lighting Up the Sky”
Sully Erna and the guys of Godsmack are gearing up to release a new album. The group’s eighth studio set, “Lighting Up the Sky,” will hit stores on Feb. 24. The album marks the band’s follow-up to 2018’s “When Legends Rise.”
Erna and longstanding rock producer Andrew “Mudrock” Murdock co-produced the album. Godsmack describes the set as “a testament to powerful storytelling.”
“I like when a record takes you on a journey from front to back. I realized there’s a whole story here about one man’s journey, the ups, and downs,” Erna said in a press release. “I believe it’s a story everyone will connect to, on a human level, because we’ve all gone through things in life.”
As for motifs, the record explores “boy-meets-girl, obstacles in relationships, the polarized political climate and the state of the world, betrayal, connection, rebounds, and more,” according to a release. It also asks some questions about “legacy” and what we leave behind.
On top of the album announcement, Godsmack have released the opening track off the set, “You and I.” The song marks Godsmack’s second single off the new album following “Surrender,” which is currently No. 1 at mainstream rock radio.
