Staind are back with a new album, “Confessions of the Fallen,” and new single, “Lowest in Me”

There’s something comforting about a new album from Staind being on the way. If you’re a fan of the post-grunge movement, then Staind is and always will be a regular on your playlist. For years, the band was apart, as Aaron Lewis pursued his country solo project and Mike Mushok played in a variety of other bands. But, now, Staind are officially back.

Staind have their first new album in 12 years, “Confessions of the Fallen” set for release this fall. In addition, ahead of the release, the Massachusetts rock band has released the album’s first single, “Lowest in Me.”

“Lowest in Me” sounds very Staind. The song features vocalist Aaron Lewis’ emotive voice over thick guitars and a massive, anthemic chorus. It truly sounds like it could come out of the late-1990s and early-2000s post-grunge textbook, but it also sounds a bit modern. The pre-bridge also sounds a bit like a Five Finger Death Punch song.

“I did want to modernize the sound and bring us up to date,” Lewis said in a press release. “You can certainly recognize the band but at the same time you can hear that we’ve been paying attention and understand what kind of sounds and approaches we can use that maybe weren’t around the last time we did this.”

Guitarist Mike Mushok added, “It’s undeniably Aaron’s voice, and same for the songs. We got together and spent a lot of time focusing on direction, and we really like how it turned out.”

It’s a busy year for Staind. A few weeks ago, Staind announced co-headlining summer U.S. tour with Godsmack. The trek sets off July 18 in St. Louis, Missouri.

“Confessions of the Fallen” marks Staind’s follow-up to 2011’s self-titled release. The group took a break in 2012 and reformed in 2019 to play some high-profile gigs and festival dates. Then, they reunited to tour in 2021 and 2022.

So far, Staind haven’t set a specific release date for “Confessions of the Fallen.” They tentatively say to expect it this fall. However, “Lowest in Me is out,” so listen and watch the lyric video for the song below. For more on Staind, visit the band’s official website.
