The 66th Annual Grammy Awards took place on Sunday (Feb. 4) in Los Angeles. The show started with a pre-telecast ceremony where most of the awards are given out, including those in the rock and metal genres. Here’s the full list of the metal, rock and alternative 2024 Grammy Awards winners.

Metallica scored the biggest heavy music award of the night, winning Best Metal Performance for their latest album, “72 Seasons.” Metallica bass player Robert Trujillo was at the event to accept the award. When accepting, he stated, “This is like family. When you’re making an album like this you’re jamming and collaborating and the spirit of 72 Seasons is the youth and creating music together. Keep those instruments in your hands and let’s keep the youth making music and keeping the dream alive.” Love that sentiment. To win, Metallica beat out Disturbed with “Bad Man,” Ghost with “Phantom of the Opera,” Slipknot with “Hive Mind” and Spiritbox with “Jaded.”

Elsewhere, Best Rock Performance went to Boygenius for “Not Strong Enough.” They also scored Best Rock Song and Best Alternative Music Album. Paramore scored the prize for Best Rock Album for “This Is Why” and won for Best Alternative Music Performance. For Best Rock Album, Paramore beat out a bevy of big names, including Foo Fighters for “But Here We Are,” Greta Van Fleet for “Starcatcher,” Metallica for “72 Seasons” and Queens of the Stone Age for “In Times New Roman.”

The biggest awards of the evening were handed out during the live broadcast on CBS. Nominees were chosen from recordings released between Oct. 1, 2022 and Sept. 15, 2023. The final voting happened between Dec. 14 and Jan. 2.
