Plenty of fans were upset when Slipknot announced that they were parting ways with longtime drummer Jay Weinberg. Just looking at the hundreds of comments that reader posted on our Facebook page after the announcement showed to me how much fans loved Weinberg.

Well, the good news is that Weinberg has a new band home. What’s more, it’s a legendary metal band.

Former Slipknot Drummer Jay Weinberg’s New Home

Weinberg took to X (formerly Twitter) on Monday (March 4) to announced that he has a new home. He didn’t share the band, though, and instead teased that he would make the big announcement at 9 a.m. on Tuesday (March 5). He made good on that promise, and in a new X post, shared a message about his new band, writing, “You can’t bring me down” as the post’s caption.

In the post, he stated, “When I think of the culture and community of heavy music that I’ve loved and considered my creative home for 20 years, I think of Suicidal Tendencies. A foundational pillar and source of inspiration ever since I fell in love with punk, metal and hardcore.”

He continued, “Having toured and played shows together all over the world, I’ve been so fortunate to become friends with my musical heroes who have been a part of this band’s incredible history. It’s an absolute honor and privilege to play with Suicidal Tendencies, and I can’t wait to start this incredibly exciting new chapter in just one week! See you all in the pit!”

So, Weinberg is the new drummer for the legendary Suicidal Tendencies. The band’s thrash metal is a great fit with his drumming style.

Greyson Nekrutman served as Suicidal Tendencies’ drummer in 2023. He was announced as the band’s new drummer last April.

The Story Behind Slipknot Parting Ways With Jay Weinberg

On November 5 of 2023, Slipknot posted a statement to their social accounts to announce that Weinberg was out. They stated, “We would like to thank Jay Weinberg for his dedication and passion over the past ten years. No one can ever replace Joey Jordison’s original sound, style or energy, but Jay honored Joey’s parts and contributed to the last three albums and we, the band, and the fans appreciate it.” Then, they added, “But as ever, Slipknot is intent on evolving. The band has decided to make a creative decision, and to part ways with Jay. We wish Jay all the best and are very excited for what the future holds.”

Weinberg was understandably upset with the news, and it doesn’t seem to have been his choice. In a post to fans, he talked about the parting. At the time, he also teased new projects ahead. Now we knew that joining Suicidal Tendencies was one of them.

“I look forward to sharing my journey with you, and keeping you up-to-date in my adventure back to 100%,” he said. “Thanks to my awesome team of doctors, I’m already on the path back to what I love doing the most! The path forward through this recovery will be a challenge, but it’s one I’m up for.”
