Judas Priest. All you have to do is listen to some of the best metal love songs, and I think you'll agree that there's a place for romance and metal music to collide.

When you think of metal music, you probably don’t think of love songs. What could possibly be romantic about moshing and getting all roughed up in the mosh pit, right? Well, I happen to think metal music can be very romantic. All you have to do is listen to some of the best metal love songs, and I think you’ll agree that there’s a place for romance and metal music to collide.

Best Metal Love Songs

Motorhead, “I Got Mine”

If anyone serenades me with Motorhead’s “I Got Mine,” I swear I will be theirs. With lines like, “Be my lover, the only one / Be anything but don’t be gone,” I find this song so romantic. It’s a very lovely-sounding song, too, which is different for Lemmy Kilmister and the guys.

Led Zeppelin, “Whole Lotta Love”

Whether or not you define Led Zeppelin are hard rock or metal, there’s no denying that “Whole Lotta Love” is a great metal love song. The lyrics might not be quite poetic, but Robert Plant, indeed, gets across his idea of love, or lust, in this song. It’s a whole lot of physical fun and lust, wrapped into a great rock song.

Halestorm, “I Get Off”

Here’s another song that isn’t really metal, but it’s hard rock and heavy enough to include on this tally. Before Halestorm were one of the biggest rock bands in the world, they were just breaking out with a catchy song called “I Get Off.” This track is about a relationship that seems rocky, but the two get off on each other, so it’s all good in the end. Or, something like that.

Pantera, “This Love”

There’s no way I could put together this list and leave off the mighty Pantera with “This Love.” In this song, Philip Anselmo shows off his, well, softer side, as he sings about how he’s working to understand his emotions in a messy love situation. “I’d been the tempting one / Stole her from herself / This gift in pain / Her pain was life” he sings. It’s one of the greatest metal love songs ever.

Iron Maiden, “When the Wild Wind Blows”

I’m a big Iron Maiden fan, so I had to include “When the Wild Wind Blows” on this tally. In true Iron Maiden fashion, this song takes place in a kind of apocalyptic setting, and it’s a big morbid, but it’s still a love song. I won’t ruin it for you, but it does have an ironic and tragic ending. Still, it’s a love ditty.

Judas Priest, “Turbo Lover” and “Love Zone”

I remember getting into an argument with someone over whether “Turbo Lover” was a good song. Of course it’s a good song. Any Judas Priest song that incorporates “lover” in it is fair by me. Another good Judas Priest love song is “Love Zone,” which has the band rocking out to some hot lyrics and wild beats. I adore both of these metal love songs.

Scorpions, “Falling in Love”

Scorpions have a lot of great love-type songs, but “Falling in Love” tops it for me. This song is a funny one, with the Scorps singing about life on the road and all the groupies they would encounter, and love, at every stop. This song isn’t super romantic, but it adds some variety to this list.

So, there you have it. Proof that metal can be romantic and heartfelt. Kind of. What are your favorite metal love songs? Contact me at anne@audioinkradio.com and let me know.
