Red Hot Chili Peppers Book High-End New Year’s Eve Gig
Funk-punk band Red Hot Chili Peppers will play the home of Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich on New Year’s Eve
Red Hot Chili Peppers are set to take their intoxicating combination of funk and punk rock to the home of Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich on New Year’s Eve. Anthony Kiedis, Flea, Chad Smith and Josh Klinghoffer will perform at Abramovich’s high-profile New Year’s celebration, which is on target to be one of the world’s most expensive bashes to ring in 2012.
Roman Abramovich, the 45-year-old billionaire Russian oligarch, has hired the rambunctious rockers to entertain at the exclusive event, which will be held at Abramovich’s estate on the Caribbean island of St Barts. Abramovich, who owns the Chelsea football club, is spending more than 5 million pounds (over $7,500,000) to accommodate 300 guests at the party. Those on the exclusive list have been advised to sport “island chic” attire to the shindig, which starts at 10 p.m. and runs until 4 a.m. As for what the Peppers are getting paid for the performance, that’s under wraps. Last year, prestigious invitees included Demi Moore, Stephanie Seymour, Rosie Huntington-Whitely, Ellen DeGeneres and Star Wars originator George Lucas.
Next year will bring oodles of touring for the Peppers, as the band will play nearly two dozen North American arenas on their I’m With You World Tour. So far, tickets are going swiftly. Sold out markets, at press time, include Duluth, Ga.; Los Angeles, Ca. (both shows); New Orleans, La.; Oakland, Calif.; Orlando, Fla.; San Diego, Callif. and Sunrise, Fla. This upcoming 2012 arena jaunt is the guys’ first full-scale tour of the U.S. since 2007, when the Peppers did the rounds to back 2006’s, Stadium Arcadium.
