Heavy music fans have a splattering of live metal approaching with the 2012 Gigantour. The national tour, spearheaded by Megadeth’s own Dave Mustaine, kicks off Jan. 26 in Camden, N.J. and hits a different North American city nearly every night, wrapping Feb. 28 in Denver. Megadeth, Motorhead, Volbeat and Lacuna Coil are set to rock the stage this year. Find a complete list of tour dates, below. Specific ticket information is available via the traveling caravan’s Ticketmaster page.
Glancing at this year’s lineup, it carries the pitilessly heavy Gigantour tradition, presenting a variety of rough and tough music, from goth-flavored metal (Lacuna Coil) to thrash (Megadeth) to hard rock (Motorhead).
Danish metal band Volbeat mix a spectrum of loud genres, crafting a rockabilly-meets-metal sound the band coins as “metal rock ‘n’ rollers.” “We use a lot of different elements, because I was inspired by all these different artists and styles, so for me, it’s natural to write music like that,” singer and guitarist Michael Poulsen told Audio Ink Radio. “It comes from the inside. It’s straight from the heart, and when I sit down to write music, I don’t think about it too much, because then you fail. It has to come naturally.” Read more of our exclusive interview with Poulsen, here.
