Maynard James Keenan-fronted progressive metal band Tool played their first show of 2012 last night (Jan. 14) in Reno, Nev. For fans wondering if the band would chuck their old material for new, experimental fare, that wasn’t the case. The group didn’t play any of their new tracks, instead delivering fan favorites such as “Schism,” “Lateralus,” “Jambi,” “Stinkfist,” “Ticks & Leeches,” “Intension,” “Forty Six & 2,“ “The Pot,“ “Ænema“ and more.

In total, the guys played 11 songs, according to Setlist.fm. The only major Tool song missing from last night’s show was the seminal, “Sober,” but judging by the aforementioned tracks, the set list didn’t leave many holes. Watch footage of Tool playing “Schism” and “Lateralus” at the bottom of the story. What track do you hope Tool add to their concert repertoire?

Last year wrapped up with the major news that Tool would tour North American early this year, and last night’s show was the first of nearly 20 gigs the band have plotted through February. At first, there was some confusion as to whether the 2012 tour dates were for real, but Audio Ink Radio confirmed with Tool’s management that, yes, the tour dates were legit. After Keenan wraps up his trek with Tool, he’s scheduled to head right back on the road, this time to play with his electro-industrial comedy rock group Puscifer. For the upcoming jaunt, Puscifer’s touring line-up comprises members of A Perfect Circle (bass player Matt McJunkins and drummer Jeff Friedl), as well as Mat Mitchell, Josh Eustis and British singer / songwriter Carina Round.
