Lacuna Coil’s new single brings an ‘old-school sound’ but also comes ‘from a new place’

Lacuna Coil’s sixth studio album, “Dark Adrenaline,” arrives Jan. 24 in the U.S., and fans are waiting with great eagerness to hear the latest goth-metal from Cristina Scabbia, Andrea Ferro and the band. The album’s first single, “Trip the Darkness,” is an accessible, radio-friendly, heavy music nugget that brings together the finest of the Italian metal band’s songwriting and mesmerizing electro-rock.

Co-vocalist Ferro says he thinks “Trip the Darkness” was a perfect fit for the band’s first single since it captures the overall feel of “Dark Adrenaline,” including the “traditional sounds” of Lacuna Coil and the band’s newer sounds.

“I think it’s a good choice because it’s a song that shows the more traditional sounds of Lacuna Coil as well as some new production and new song structure and lyrics,” he told Audio Ink Radio. “It’s a good song to represent the album as being an old-school sound as well as coming from a new place. It includes some darker melodies, heavy drumming and a powerful, epic chorus. So, it’s a good choice because it represents the album.”

The album’s title, “Dark Adrenaline,” reflects the band’s past few years and the challenges they’ve had to overcome. “The title comes from a couple of years when we were having negative experiences in our personal lives. Nothing crazy; just normal things– having problems with a girlfriend, having a friend pass away,” he said. “It was all negative, and we felt negativity around us and we wanted it to use it for a more powerful outcome. We were coming from a dark place, and we had adrenaline energy coming out of that.” Check back for our full interview with Ferro next week. (Courtesy photo: Katja Kuhl Image.)
