Dave Grohl Posts Shots with Cheap Trick’s Rick Nielsen and Butch Vig
Cheap Trick’s Rick Nielsen is Dave Grohl’s latest studio buddy
We’ve already learned that Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl has recorded a track with singer Stephen Pearcy and guitarist Warren DeMartini of ‘80s hair metal outfit Ratt, as well as Corey Taylor of metal groups Stone Sour and Slipknot, for a secret, upcoming project. Now, the always-entertaining frontman has tweeted some shots of him hanging with Cheap Trick’s Rick Nielsen and Foo Fighters and Nirvana producer Butch Vig!
Check out the main photo, here. Does this mean Cheap Trick are the next on Grohl’s list of random collaborators?
It turns out that Grohl’s daughter is a big Cheap Trick fan. Speaking with Los Angeles alternative rock radio station KROQ last year during “Breakfast with the Foos,” Grohl said that his daughter wasn’t into Elmo or Barney. Instead, she opts to listen to Cheap Trick’s “If You Want My Love” and sing along.
Grohl is currently working on a documentary about Sound City Studios, the recording space where Nirvana’s famous album “Nevermind” was recorded. The studio is also associated with releases from Pat Benatar, Foreigner and, yes, Cheap Trick! Other artists expected to be involved with the Sound City Studios documentary include Nine Inch Nails, Fleetwood Mac, REO Speedwagon, Willie Nelson and Tom Petty and more. REO Speedwagon’s Kevin Cronin broke the news to Artisan News regarding the documentary: “Dave is working on this project based on a studio that we all used to work at. I probably shouldn’t be talking about it—Dave will probably announce it. But it’s very cool. I know it means a lot to a lot of artists. So Dave is just kind of putting together something to get the stories that all the artists had about that studio.” (Photo via Foo Fighters Twitter and Grunge Report.)
