Slash readies sophomore solo album with Alter Bridge vocalist Myles Kennedy

Metal fans can breathe a heavy sigh of relief, because Slash is making his way to the road for a bad-to-the-bones tour this spring, and he’s taking Alter Bridge lead singer Myles Kennedy with him. Slash’s latest solo album isn’t quite finished, but it’s far enough along for him to announce 2012 tour dates in support of the forthcoming, yet-to-be-titled metal effort. The tour begins May 3 in Baltimore and will carry through thirteen stops before wrapping May 26 Albuquerque, N.M.

For the upcoming album, Slash and “Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators” — Myles, Brent Fitz (drums) and Todd Kerns (bass) — sat down with producer Eric Valentine, who also produced the “Slash” album. “Slash” debuted No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart and No. 1 on the Billboard Rock chart, so hooking back up with Valentine is a killer move. In addition to Kennedy lending his famously smooth, irresistible tenor to the set, he also co-wrote all of the songs on the album with Slash– a real treat for Alter Bridge fans.

A fan pre-sale for tickets starts this Wednesday (Feb. 15), with the regular on-sale starting Friday (Feb. 17). Tickets will be for sale via Slash’s official website. In addition to the normal tour dates, the men will hit up three high-profile rock festivals: Carolina Rebellion, Rock on the Range and Rocklahoma.

In other news, this Saturday (Feb. 18), Slash will perform at a special tribute concert honoring the 70th birthday of boxing legend Muhammad Ali. The show, to be held at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, will also feature Chris Cornell, Stevie Wonder, Sean Combs, Lenny Kravitz, LL Cool J, Common, Snoop Dogg, Oprah Winfrey, former President Bill Clinton, actors Anthony Hopkins, James Gandolfini and others. So, what do you think Slash should name his latest album? (Photo via MSO PR.)
