Watch President Obama sing blues standard ‘Sweet Home Chicago’

President Obama has once again pulled out his smooth pipes for the public. Following the president’s now-famous rendition of Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together” at a fundraising event a few weeks ago, the president took the microphone again on Tuesday (Feb. 21) and crooned a few lines of the blues standard “Sweet Home Chicago” at a special White House concert.

President Obama seemed cautious to sing publicly again, but he was compelled by a request from blues legends Buddy Guy and B.B. King. “We were trying to get you to sing that,” Buddy Guy asserted at the show. “Because I heard you had sung Al Green, so you started something so you gotta keep it up!”

“Oh come on, baby don’t you wanna go,” Obama sang, after giving in to the request. Mick Jagger, who also performed at the concert, clapped along to the president’s short performance.

The event Tuesday was hosted by the Obamas to pay respect to blues music in conjunction with Black History Month. The Obama White House has held a sequence of similar performances to honor other genres of music, including jazz, country and Latin. On Tuesday, the performers included Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger, Jeff Beck, B.B. King, Keb Mo and Buddy Guy. Songs performed included B.B. King busting out “The Thrill is Gone,” Mick Jagger singing “I Can’t Turn You Loose,” Keb’ Mo performing “Henry,” and Buddy Guy and Jeff Beck rocking out to “Let Me Love You Baby,” to name a few highlights.
