It’s official: Pearl Jam are recording their new album with Brendan O’Brien

Are they working on a new album? Are they just delaying things, again? These are the questions rattling in the minds of Pearl Jam fans across the world. The band have stated that they’re shooting to release a new album at some point, but band members, for the most part, have shied away from talking about the new release or giving up too many specifics.

Now, it seems fans have something a bit more concrete to hold on to when it comes to news of an upcoming Pearl Jam set. Guitarist Mike McCready has revealed that the Seattle foursome have officially started work on their tenth studio album, and they actually began laying down tracks just last week! “We started yesterday,” McCready told the OC Weekly.

He added that Pearl Jam have started to work out demos between themselves and have officially tapped longtime producer and collaborator Brendan O’Brien to man the knobs for the album. “We’re in the process of everyone bringing their demos and getting their songs out there,” he said.

Meanwhile, McCready is keeping plenty busy with Flight to Mars, his longtime side project that also features Tim DiJulio (guitar), Gary Westlake (bass), Mike Musburger (drums), Ty Bailie(keyboards) and Paul Passereli (vocals). That group is set to play their 10th anniversary tour in May. Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder is also keeping a packed itinerary, as he just announced a European solo tour for this July and August. Finally, guitarist Stone Gossard is also keeping his schedule occupied with his band Brad, which will release their latest album via Razor & Tie on April 24 in the U.S.
