Alice in Chains Announce First Show of 2012

Guitarist Jerry Cantrell will receive the Stevie Ray Vaughn Award from MuisCares this May

Alice in Chains have announced their first official show of 2012, and it’s a benefit concert that also serves as a tribute to guitarist Jerry Cantrell. Cantrell will be honored at the MusiCares MAP Fund Benefit Show in Los Angeles benefit concert May 31, in which he’ll receive the Stevie Ray Vaughn Award, and the famed grunge rock band will also perform. The MSP Fund provides members of the music community access to addiction recovery resources, including emergency financial assistance for basic living expenses and medical expenses. 

“From what I’ve seen, addiction can be an occupational hazard in the music business and I know firsthand how the MusiCares MAP Fund helps artists and members of the music community find the resources for recovery,” Cantrell said, in an official statement. “I’ve been a supporter for a long time, and I’m proud to help raise awareness and funds so this organization can continue to save lives.”

Sony and ATV Music Publishing Senior Consultant Neil Lasher will also be honored that night, accepting the From the Heart Award. For more information on MusiCares, visit the organization’s site .

In other Alice in Chains news, the folks at SingForLayne.com are getting together on late frontman Layne Staley’s birthday, April 5, to sing in his honor.
