Deftones to Start Recording New Album in July, Says Chino Moreno
Deftones frontman on new album: ‘I think it will be the Best Album We’ve Recorded’
Alternative metallers Deftones are planning to release a new collection of their riff-heavy tunes soon, according to frontman Chino Moreno. Speaking with La Tercera, Moreno announced that the gentlemen have finished the pre-production phase of their seventh studio album. Even better, they’re planning to enter the studio on July 9 to start taping the release. Expect it to drop in late 2012.
“I know everyone says this, but I think it will be the best album we’ve recorded,” Moreno said to the magazine. “I am very excited about because it sounds futuristic compared to our last album, ‘Diamond Eyes’ — so it feels like a step forward.”
When Moreno isn’t busy making heavy tunes with Deftones, he keeps his chops sharp by collaborating with other like-minded musicians. In fact, Moreno appears on the upcoming score / soundtrack for the flick “The Raid: Redemption,” lending his talents to a track called “Razors Out,” which was penned by Mike Shinoda of rap-rockers Linkin Park. Listen to the song, here.
In other Deftones news, longtime bass player Chi Cheng is showing signs of emerging from the coma he’s been in since a 2008 car accident. In February, the official website for his medical fund posted a note sharing the good news that Cheng is now able to move his leg when asked and also grunt and make other noises. While that may seem like a small step towards recovery, it’s truly a promising sign. To stay current with Cheng’s condition, visit the site for his recovery fund. While Cheng remains in a coma, the band will have Sergio Vega filling in on bass.
