Smashing Pumpkins main man sings the praises of current bass player Nicole Fiorentino
Billy Corgan and his alternative rock band the Smashing Pumpkins are currently on the road in support of their latest full-length album, “Oceania.” Those who catch the live shows will notice the Pumpkins, per usual, have a female bass player in the fold, but Corgan says the band’s current bassist, Nicole Fiorentino, is actually the first bassist he’s worked with who has recorded on the band’s album.
“Nicole’s the first bass player I’ve worked with where she is the bass player on the album,” Corgan told the Great Falls Tribune. “She’s such a major contributor, and it’s such a thrill to work with her.
“It’s interesting as a composer to hand her something and see her come up with melodies that are counterpunctual in a baroque way but yet they sound like they’re from a different mindsource as opposed to me writing counterpunctual melodies that sound like they come from one mind. I’m proud to work with her.”
The Smashing Pumpkins’ fall 2012 tour is slated to run through Nov. 4 in Hartford, Conn., at Mohegan Sun Arena. For more on the Pumpkins’ tour dates, go here.
