Green Day Cancel Remaining 2012 Tour Dates
Green Day cancel 2012 club tour and postpone 2013 run while frontman Billie Joe Armstrong seeks treatment for substance abuse
The guys of Green Day have announced that they will cancel their upcoming club tour that was set to kick off in Seattle at the Paramount Theatre on Sept. 26 and run through a date in Tempe, Ariz., at the Marquee Theatre on Dec. 10. Tickets for the clubs shows will be refunded at point of purchase. That’s not all: Green Day will also postpone all of their scheduled tour dates for the months of January and February 2013. New dates for the rescheduled shows are expected to be announced soon, and previously purchased tickets will be honored on the rescheduled dates.
The cancelations are due to Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong taking time off to seek treatment for substance abuse. “Obviously the timing for this isn’t ideal, but Billie Joe’s well-being is our main concern,” bass player Mike Dirnt said in an official statement. “We are happy to say that Billie Joe is doing well, and we want to thank you all for the outpouring of support and well wishes that we have received, and we can’t wait to see you all again soon.”
Green Day will also release their next album, “¡Tré!,” earlier than expected– on Dec. 11, 2012, instead of Jan. 15, 2013. “We feel bad we have to delay our tour, so to make up for it we want to give our fans the music earlier than we had planned,” drummer Tré Cool said. “If we couldn’t be there to play it for you live, the least we could do was give you the next best thing.”
