U2 Frontman Bono Becomes a Member of the Hurricane Sandy Relief Organization’s Advisory Board

U2’s Bono has joined the Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund’s Honorary Advisory Board

U2 singer Bono is no stranger to helping a noble cause, and his latest move is becoming a member of the Honorary Advisory Board for the Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund. The news came from New Jersey’s first lady, Mary Pat Christie, who revealed on Tuesday (Feb. 5) that Bono and NBC newsman Brian Williams had official joined the nonprofit organization’s board. They’ll join other famed musicians, including Bruce Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi, on the board.

“It’s an honor to be asked to support the governor [Chris Christie] and first lady in this ongoing effort,” Bono said in an official statement. “New Jersey is always a highlight of any U2 tour. What’s inspiring about the New Jersey relief effort are not the names on the Board, which I’m humbled to serve with, but the volunteers who have rallied all over the state, in fact all over the tri-state area.”

Mrs. Christie, who is the chair of the fund, added that, “We are thrilled that Bono and Brian have lent their names to assist New Jersey families in rebuilding their lives and overcoming the most destructive storm in our state’s history. The dollars we have raised will support organizations on the front lines of the recovery effort and address the unmet needs of New Jersey communities.”

The relief fund, which Mary Pat Christie started literally a few days after Hurricane Sandy hit the northeastern part of the country, has raised over $32 million dollars thus far. For more information, head to the organization’s official website.
