The 2013 Brit Awards brought trophies for Mumford & Sons, the Black Keys and Coldplay
The Grammy Awards just wrapped up, and the ceremony was chased by another awards show: the Brit Awards, which is the U.K. equivalent of the Grammys. On Wednesday (Feb. 20), alternative folk act Mumford & Sons snagged one of the top honors at the Brit Awards with the Best British Group award.
The win was a surprise, to say the least. “We weren’t really expecting [to win],” frontman Marcus Mumford said upon receiving the award, the BBC News reports. “We were in a group with Muse and One Direction, so it’s a surprise. We love being British and we love going around the world and telling people we’re British, so we’re very proud and very grateful.”
In addition to the Mumford & Sons win, alternative rockers Coldplay took home the trophy for Best British Live Act, even elbowing out the Rolling Stones for the honor. Blues-rock duo the Black Keys took home the trophy for Best International Group.
