Dave Grohl and his friend Taylor Greenwood have released a new song to benefit the Project Night Night charity

Dave Grohl may not be known for mellow jams, it’s more like raw and rowdy ‘n’ roll, but that doesn’t mean can’t pull out a lullaby. Grohl, who fronts grunge rockers Foo Fighters, attended a concert by Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Taylor Greenwood last year and was so impressed by her show that he offered to help with her new album. Now, Grohl and Greenwood are working together on a lullaby for charity.

The song, “Sing You to Sleep,” features Greenwood singing alongside Grohl playing acoustic guitar. A music video for the tune has been posted to Greenwood’s official YouTube page, and she recently told Rolling Stone the song was a combined effort.

“Dave and I wrote this song together,” Greenwood said. “He came up with the beautiful guitar part, obviously, and I sang…without even thinking about it. I thought it would be lovely to do a lullaby. To make whoever listened feel a little comforted, loved, maybe even just a little sleepy.”

“Sing You to Sleep” is for sale as a pay-what-you-want download via Greenwood’s official website, and all funds raised from the song go to Project Night Night, which donates over 25,000 “Night Night Packages” — offering a security blanket, an age-appropriate children’s book and a stuffed animal — to homeless children each year.

“In many cases these are the only possessions these kids have ever had,” Greenwood said.  “I’m so thrilled about how this all came together and so excited to be able to support this charity.”
