Taylor Hawkins says Foo Fighters’ new album is ‘as perfect as we can be’

Foo Fighters’ new “Sonic Highways” album is finally in stores. It’s been a long promotional ride leading up to the release, including a week-long residency on “The Late Show with David Letterman,” a crop of secret gigs and, of course, an HBO documentary series also called “Sonic Highways.” While all the hype is fine and dandy, the real question begs the question, “How does the new album sound?

According to drummer Taylor Hawkins, “Sonic Highways” is “as perfect as we can be.”

“We kept (‘Sonic Highways’) as humanly perfect as possible, but nothing more,” Hawkins said during an interview with NME, which also included frontman Dave Grohl, guitarists Pat Smear and Chris Shiflett and bass player Nate Mendel. “Not anything over humanly perfect.” By that, Hawkins may be referring to the fact the Foos pride themselves on avoiding using studio trickery to make their tracks “perfect.”

“Sonic Highways” is out, but that doesn’t mean the fanfare has ended. The “Sonic Highways” documentary series airs its fifth episode this Friday (Nov. 14). This particular episode revolves around Los Angeles. After that, three more episodes remain, which will take place in New Orleans, Seattle and New York.
