Rock Band Cancels Final Concert of the Year Following Controversy
It’s always a bummer when a favorite band cancels a gig, especially when that band is a headlining act. But, sometimes, it’s just not avoidable. Such is the case with a beloved ’90s rock band, who just pulled the plug on the final concert they had scheduled for 2024.
Foo Fighters Cancel 2024 Soundside Music Festival Appearance
Foo Fighters have called off their performance at this weekend’s Soundside Music Festival. The appearance would have marked the band’s first gig since Dave Grohl shared a statement on his newborn daughter earlier this month. It was also the Foo Fighters’ only show left booked for this year.
The show will go on, and the festival is set to run at the Hartford HealthCare Amphitheater in Bridgeport, Connecticut, on Sept. 28 and 29. Foo Fighters were slated to headline the event on Sunday night, so the news definitely adds a bit of a dagger into the festival’s plans. But, taking the place of Foo Fighters will be Jack White and Greta Van Fleet, so those are two big names that will hopefully appease rock fans going.
The Foo Fighters cancelation comes not long after Grohl announced that he was having a child with a woman other than his wife. But, Foo Fighters didn’t say why they canceled the show. Even thought the timing may look related to some people, there isn’t any evidence to suggest Foo Fighters canceled the show because of that situation.
“Foo Fighters will no longer be appearing at this weekend’s Soundside Music Festival,” the band wrote in a short statement on their social media pages. “Please check the festival website for more information.”
Grohl announced the birth of his new baby daughter outside of his marriage in early September.
“I’ve recently become the father of a new baby daughter, born outside of my marriage. I plan to be a loving and supportive parent to her,” the vocalist and guitarist wrote at the time. “I love my wife and my children, and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness. We’re grateful for your consideration toward all the children involved, as we move forward together.”
Foo Fighters Have No Upcoming Tour Dates on the Books
Foo Fighters closed out their major 2024 North American headlining tour on Aug. 18 in Seattle, Washington. Right now, their website doesn’t list any upcoming performances for 2024 or 2025.
Grohl married his wife, Blum, in a private ceremony at the couple’s Los Angeles residence on August 2, 2003. The marriage was the second for both Blum and Grohl, according to the New York Post. Grohl was earlier married to photographer Jennifer Youngblood, and they divorced in 1997. Blum and Grohl have three children together: Violet Maye, Harper Willow and Ophelia Saint, whom they had in 2006, 2009 and 2014, respectively, per to Page Six.
Foo Fighters’ most recent full-length studio album is 2023’s “But Here We Are.” They’ve been touring a lot and haven’t announced plans for a follow-up album yet, but Grohl often talks about wanting to continue to make new music.
