U2’s Bono is recovering after multiple surgeries following a bicycle accident

U2 frontman Bono was involved in a bicycle accident last Sunday (Nov. 16) in New York’s Central Park, and it’s more serious than initially thought. As it turns out, the musician was in surgery for more than five hours over two days to work on several serious injuries following the accident.

Bono underwent surgery right after his accident on Sunday to repair his left humerus (the upper arm bone), which was broken in six places and “driven through his skin,” according to a statement from the trauma surgeon who operated on Bono at New York Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center and Hospital for Special Surgery. The surgery involved the use of three metal places and 18 screws. The next day, Bono had more surgery on his fractured left pinky finger. He fractured his left eye socket in the incident, too.

While the statement explains Bono “will require intensive and progressive therapy,” it also states “a full recovery is expected.” The bicycle accident occurred as Bono “attempted to avoid another rider,” the statement also explains. The staff of Audio Ink wishes Bono a quick and full recovery.
