Red Hot Chili Peppers Aren’t Retiring, Says Flea
Red Hot Chili Peppers bass player Flea says to ignore those rumors about retirement
If you’ve heard the recent rumor that Red Hot Chili Peppers are retiring, don’t believe it. Bass player Flea says all the talk about the band supposedly calling it quits is “just silly talk.”
“We never really look past the immediate future, but we’re on tour right now, we’re rocking out, we feel in the spirit, and letting the music move us,” Flea told TMZ.
So, where did this rumor get started? In a new podcast interview, drummer Chad Smith talked about Red Hot Chili Peppers’ band members getting older and questioned if they could keep touring as heavily as they do now. That led to rumors about retirement.
“To be honest, since the day we first started this band nearly 35 years ago, I’ve never ever known what’s next or what’s around the corner or anything,” Flea told TMZ. “I think the power of the band lies in that — just staying in the moment and staying with the energy that’s moving.”
Red Hot Chili Peppers are currently on the road in Europe. Their most recent release is 2016’s “The Getaway.”
