Slipknot Frontman Corey Taylor Explains Why ‘All Out Life’ Isn’t on New Album
Slipknot created the song “All Out Life” to be its “own thing,” according to Corey Taylor, and not be part of a greater album
Slipknot dropped the new single “All Out Life” last Halloween, and at the time, it was the first bit of new music from the band since 2014’s “.5: The Gray Chapter.” Most fans assumed the song would appear on Slipknot’s upcoming album, but when the track list for the collection, “We Are Not Your Kind,” was announced earlier this month, “All Out Life” wasn’t on there.
Now, frontman Corey Taylor is explaining why “All Out Life” is its “own thing.” In an interview with Kerrang!, Taylor says the song was created to stand alone and not be part of any other package.
“[‘All Out Life’] really just let people know that we weren’t gone, and that we were still looking forward and working on music,” Taylor said.
“It was just such a catchy song that it made sense to release it,” Taylor added. “But now, in context with the story that we’re telling [on ‘We Are Not Your Kind’], we weren’t sure if we were going to put it on there.”
Even though “All Out Life” isn’t included on “We Are Not Your Kind,” the song has influence on the new album. In fact, the album’s title is taken from the single’s lyrics.
“It was definitely something that I thought, ‘This could be something really cool,'” Taylor said of the title. “But it took on a life of its own, and that’s when I really started thinking about the phrase, about how it could be perceived.”
“We Are Not Your Kind” will arrive on Aug. 9.
