Megadeth Returns to the Stage Following Dave Mustaine’s Cancer Treatment
Watch Dave Mustaine’s first concert with Megadeth since his diagnosis with throat cancer
Megadeth is back, and so is their mighty frontman, Dave Mustaine. The legendary thrash metal band performed its first show since Mustaine’s throat cancer diagnosis last night (Jan. 20) in Helsinki, Finland. It had been 15 months since the band had performed live.
The show marked the kick off of Megadeth’s European tour with Five Finger Death Punch. The show took place at the Hartwell Arena and packed Megadeth classics such as “Symphony of Destruction,” “Hangar 18,” and “Dystopia,” the latter off their Grammy Award-wintering album by the same name. Watch fan-filled footage from the show below.
Megadeth’s tour with Five Finger Death punch also features support from Bad Wolves. The trek runs now through Feb. 20 at the Budapest Sportarena in Budapest, Hungary.
Mustaine announced his cancer diagnosis back in June 2019, stating on social media, “It’s clearly something to be respected and faced head on — but I’ve faced obstacles before. I’m working closely with my doctors, and we’ve mapped out a treatment plan which they feel has a 90 (percent) success rate.”
Megadeth have continued working on their new album, and in the same post, Mustaine stated, “Kiko, David, Dirk and I are in the studio, working on the follow up to ‘Dystopia’ — which I can’t wait for everyone to hear. I’m so thankful for my whole team — family, doctors, band members, trainers, and more. I can’t wait for everyone to hear.”
