Grey Daze Readies New LP, ‘The Phoenix,’ Featuring Chester Bennington’s Daughters
Grey Daze will release a new album this summer featuring late Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington’s vocals
Before Chester Bennington became a household name in Linkin Park, he was in a band called Grey Daze. In 2020, the Phoenix band released a new LP, “Amends,” featuring the vocals of the late, great Bennington. Now, they’re back with another new album, called “The Phoenix,” out June 17.
The new LP will also feature Bennington’s vocals. As with “Amends,” the members of Grey Daze re-recorded the group’s old songs and added Chester’s previously recorded vocals, with the blessing of Chester’s. The upcoming set also features a bevy of major names from the rock world, including Dave Navarro of Jane’s Addiction and Richard Patrick of Filter. Bennington’s daughters, Lily and Lila Bennington, are also on the set.
In addition to the album announcement, Grey Daze has released a video for the lead single “Saturation (Strange Love),” which can be viewed below. The song was produced by Esjay Jones.
“It’s going to surprise a lot of people because it gets back to Chester’s core,” drummer and songwriter Sean Dowdell said in a statement. “One of the things that people love about him was his unique ability to scream in key… and this song brings you back to everything you love about that scream. You feel that angst and raw emotion he brought to everything he did.”
Before Bennington’s untimely passing, he was actually making plans to get back together with Grey Daze and re-record the band’s early songs.
“Amends was more emotional and reflective,” Dowdell said. “We felt sad when we were writing it. Now that we’re a couple of years removed, it’s very clear what we were going through. We were at a different stage of grief. We went through the shock and the sadness. Now, we’re back to gratitude. So, The Phoenix is more of a celebration of our friend, his talent, and the music. It captures Chester’s angst and energy that people fell in love with. It’s much more aggressive. If you love Chester’s scream, you’ll love this record.”
