Bring Me the Horizon Release New Album, ‘POST HUMAN: NeX GEn’
The guys of Bring Me the Horizon are full of surprises, as the band just released a new album, “POST HUMAN: NeX GEn,” with pretty much no warning. The British rock group only told fans that the release was coming a few hours before it was out. I’ve noticed this trend with bands and artists lately, where they don’t do a big pre-sale run up to a release. Let’s face it: Even some of the biggest music fans out there really just wait until the song or album is out to go listen to it, so a big pre-promotion can be a waste.
Bring Me the Horizon Release ‘POST HUMAN: NeX GEn’
“POST HUMAN: NeX GEn” marks Bring Me the Horizon’s first full-length album in five years. It’s not a total surprise, because the band was actually supposed to release the record back in September of last year. The release got pushed back to an unknown date due to “unforeseen circumstances.” Bring Me the Horizon never told fans what those “circumstances” were, but now, the album is out, so it’s all good.
It’s worth noting that “POST HUMAN: NeX GEn” isn’t an entirely new album. Bring Me the Horizon have been releasing singles from the album little by little over the past few years, including “DiE4u,” “sTraNgeRs,” “LosT,” “AmEN!,” “DArkSide” and “Kool-Aid,” which all appear on the set. That said, it’s true that “POST HUMAN: NeX GEn” is Bring Me the Horizon’s first full-length album since 2019’s “amo.” During the pandemic lockdown, the guys also released a nine-song EP named “Post Human: Survival Horror” in 2020.
Regarding “NeX GEn,” singer Oli Sykes says that it’s about “searching for something more hopeful, if not entirely positive in and of itself,” according to a press release. The release adds, “NeX GEn is the latest chapter in the series to be revealed and sees the band expanding both musically and conceptually. Following on from 2020’s ‘POST HUMAN: Survival Horror’ – which featured collaborations with YUNGBLUD, Nova Twins, BABYMETAL and Evanescence‘s Amy Lee, and includes the huge hit singles ‘Teardrops’ and ‘Obey.’ Sonically the album hits heavy, whilst frontman Oli’s vocals are his most melodic to date… Not that Bring Me The Horizon are looking backward. As ever, NeX GEn is the work of a band unafraid to challenge both themselves and the musical world in which they have become leaders.”
Sykes elaborates more on the set, saying, “It’s a real concept album, with a full narrative that connects to the first record, but the concept is hidden and buried. Some people aren’t going to be interested, but for some people it could be like a self-help book. There’s a lot of things in there, some of it’s quite clear, but a lot of it cryptic and hidden. People are gonna have to work it out.” It’s pretty cool to get a concept album in an era not known for them.
While Bring Me the Horizon don’t have any U.S. tour dates in the books yet, they’ll tour this summer to promote the new album on a European festival trek. They have European tour dates booked early June through mid August.
