Slayer Guitarist Kerry King Loves the Las Vegas Raiders
Slayer guitarist Kerry King is a massive Las Vegas Raiders fan. He talked about it in an August 2024 interview with Audio Ink Radio, where he said that he tries to make use of his season tickets as much as possible, when he’s not touring with his new solo project. Now, King is opening up again about his love for the Raiders just before the 2024 NFL regular season kicks off. It’s fun to see that he’s such a huge football fan, because usually, he just seems like a music guy.
Slayer’s Kerry King is a Fan of the Las Vegas Raiders
Speaking in a Sept. 4 interview with Heavy Consequence, King discussed how he became a Las Vegas Raiders fan. It dates back to when he was quite young.
“I liked the Raiders when they were in Oakland. I’m a bad guy. I like the bad guys. The Raiders have always been bad guys,” he explained. “They’re the guys smoking on the sidelines. They’re the guys hung over, getting ready to go in and sack the quarterback and throw massive touchdowns. They’re the dudes hung over and smoking on the sidelines.”
He added, “So, I liked them from Oakland. I liked them in LA. I liked them back in Oakland, and I like them in Vegas. I’m not jaded by them leaving anywhere. I live in New York City now, but I was in Vegas when they came, and I still have my season seats there.”
He also said that, “I’m sure the silver and black, the eye-patched guy, all led me to want to be a fan of that franchise.”
It’s been roughly 40 years since the Raiders have won a Super Bowl. That’s not nearly as bad as my team, the Detroit Lions, who have yet to even appear at a Super Bowl. But, still, King says he’s frustrated by it.
“It’s pretty ridiculous,” he said, adding that, “a team that claims to have a ‘commitment to excellence’ better be winning. You better not be losing your own division for the last however many fucking years. There’s talent out there. Every year, free agency and the draft brings new hope for whatever the year may have. We’ll see, we got some good players. We got [defensive end] Max Crosby, who’s a f***ing beast. We’ll see what this year holds for us.”
Kerry King’s Favorite NFL Players of All Time
When asked to name his “Big Four” of NFL players, King went with Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Dan Marino, Emmitt Snith and Marcus Allen. So, he went with five, but we’ll let that slide.
When it comes to the GOAT, Tom Brady, King said that he “rebelled against it since the beginning of time, but you pretty much have to start with Tom Brady.” He added that he hates to say it, “but he is pretty much the greatest of all time. You can’t really argue that.”
King also said he’s a longtime Peyton Manning fan, “because he was just that good and never had the surrounding cast that Tom Brady had, in my opinion.”
