Rock Band Kiss is Working on a Big New Project

Kiss said farewell to the world on their “End of the Road World Tour,” which kicked off January 31, 2019, at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, Canada, and ran through a December 2, 2023, show at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Band members insist that they won’t tour again, so it does seem like a real retirement this time around. If you missed the tour or want to relive the experience, Kiss is working on a new project documenting the entire run.

Kiss is Doing a Five-Part Documentary About Their Final Tour

Paul Stanley of Kiss took to social media on October 4 to announce that his wife was being interviewed for a documentary about their farewell tour.

“My beautiful wife Erin being interviewed today for a five-part documentary on our final tour. I’m blessed,” he wrote alongside a photo of his wife sitting on the couch, looking into the camera.

So, far no other members of Kiss have announced the new documentary, and the band hasn’t officially announced it. But, Stanley’s post pretty much confirms that this documentary is on the way.

So, is it really the end for Kiss? Gene Simmons says Kiss is definitely over. Speaking with Rolling Stone towards the end of 2023, Simmons said it would definitely be the band’s final tour.

“My hand on the Bible,” he said. “And I should know because my people wrote that book. In fact, my people also wrote the follow-up book, the New Testament. And so I’ll say right here, right now, my hand on the Bible, it will be the final Kiss-in-makeup appearance.”

Well, he said “final Kiss-in-makeup appearance,” so perhaps that could lead to some ideas that the band members will perform together again, just not in makeup and costume. Time will tell.

Kiss ‘Was American Culture’ in 1977

In June of this year, Stanley spoke with Louder Sound about Kiss’ seminal year: 1977.

“It was an incredible time for us,” he recalled. “Everything had kind of exploded and we found ourselves trying to fortify Kiss’ place in rock n’ roll. I wanted to see the band become the biggest it could possibly be. To reach the Olympus of Rock.”

When asked how Kiss fit into American culture in 1977, Simmons replied, “We were American culture.”

He added, “A Gallup poll voted us the number one band in the country. We were a reflection of what people were enamored with. And the fear had gone, at least from my mind. I was a kid from a lower middle class family, so to taste the good life was incredible. I found myself praying once or twice: “Dear God, don’t take this away from me. Please be kind to this poor soul!”

He also talked about Kiss’ “Alive II” live release. What he loved most about that release, which many consider a classic, is how he says it captured the band’s live energy.

“Sonically, I never felt the studio albums lived up to what we were doing live,” he said. “They just didn’t have the kick, the balls or the sonic enormity of what we did live. Alive II captured the experience of being at a Kiss show and what we stood for.”
