The thing about the 1990s is that while it was a great decade for grunge music, many of those iconic vocalists are no longer with us. But, after the sad death of Kurt Cobain of Nirvana, the post-grunge era started to bloom, and suddenly, there was a new sea of rock bands that sounded a lot like Nirvana to enjoy.
One of those bands is Puddle of Mudd. Now, a new report claims that Puddle of Mudd vocalist Wes Scantlin was arrested this week for felony domestic violence following allegedly getting into a physical altercation with his girlfriend.
Report Claims Post-Grunge Musician Was Arrested
According to a report from TMZ, police were called to a Torrance, California, apartment around 3 a.m. local time on Tuesday, March 11. When they arrived, they found visible marks on the woman’s arms, according to the report, and they arrested Scantlin. The musician, the report states, was also allegedly found in possession of a small amount of a controlled substance.
According to TMZ, Scantlin “got physical with his girlfriend.” The report also states that “law enforcement sources” told them that “police . . . received a call to an apartment around 3 AM Tuesday night for a fight,” and that when they arrived, they “talked to [Scantlin] and his girlfriend and determined that the couple got into a verbal argument that, at one point, allegedly turned physical.”
“Our sources say police saw visible marks on the woman’s arms and [Scantlin] was arrested,” TMZ added. “During a search of his person, we’re told cops allegedly found a small amount of a control substance. In the end, we’re told Wes was booked for felony domestic violence and possession of a controlled substance. He’s still in the L.A. County Jail with bail set at $90,000.”
Several other outlets have reported on this story, including People magazine, Consequence, Stereogum, People magazine, Consequence, Metal Injection and NME.
According to People magazine, Scantlin “was arrested just after 4:00 a.m. local time and booked into jail at about 5:12 a.m., according to jail records viewed by PEOPLE. He was later released on Saturday, March 15, after posting bond.”
People adds that Scantlin, “has two upcoming court appearances scheduled for March 28 and April 15, per records viewed be PEOPLE.”
According to TMZ and People magazine, both outlets contacted Scantlin’s representatives for comment but haven’t gotten responses. This is a developing story, and as of this writing, no additional details have been revealed, but that will likely change.
Puddle of Mudd’s Greatest Hits
Puddle of Mudd released their debut studio album, “Come Clean,” in 2021. The album marked the band’s best chart-topper on the Billboard 200 and peaked at No. 9. It featured the rock radio hits “Control,” “Blurry,” “Drift & Die” and “She Hates Me.”
While the hard-charging “Control” was the first single released off “Come Clean,” the most successful single was the ballad “Blurry.” This track was so huge that it was the most successful rock song of 2002. It also topped the Billboard Mainstream Rock and Modern Rock Tracks.
Scantlin has been interviewed by Audio Ink Radio several times, and he’s always been nothing but kind. We wish him the best in his current situation.
