Mutemath drummer says ‘Blood Pressure’ has special meaning to the alternative rock band

Alternative rock starlets Mutemath are currently closing out their “Odd Soul Introduction Tour,” playing material off their just-released new full-length, Odd Soul, out on Teleprompt / Warner Bros. Records. Now, the Paul Meany (vocals / keyboards), Roy Mitchell-Cardenas (bass), Darren King (drums), and Todd Gummerman (guitar) have announced a fresh, headlining tour that will take them through major markets in the U.S. in early 2012. Find a complete list of tour dates, below.

Mutemath’s first single from Odd Soul, “Blood Pressure,” is currently inside the Top 40 on the alternative rock radio chart, and it helped Mutemath get chosen as VH1’s “You Oughta Know” artist for the month of November.

King says “Blood Pressure” has a special meaning to the guys of Mutemath. “That’s one of the first songs that we liked when we were working on the album,” he told Audio Ink Radio. “There was a relatively lengthy process of writing the record, and we feel that with this record, and especially that song, we were finding out identity.”

He added that “Blood Pressure” doesn’t feel like a recycling of previous Mutemath material. “We don’t feel like we’re just redoing the previous record,” he said. “But, that’s the first song we really latched onto.” Check back for a full interview with King next week. In the meantime, check out what King had to say about the 20th anniversary of Nirvana’s, Nevermind.
