Ex-Korn axeman enters the studio in November

Brian “Head” Welch first rose up as one of two key guitarists in Bakersfield, Calif.-based alternative metal band Korn, one of the most provocative bands of their era. Around 2005, Welch left the band, answering the call from a higher power to make music with a faith-filled basis. Now, Welch has released a new single, “Paralyzed,” and he’s currently recording an album with RED’s Jasen Rauch, which Welch is gunning to get out in spring, 2012.

Welch says he’s entering the studio in about a week to complete the new throng of ditties. “We got some songs already, and they’re right up the alley of ‘Paralyzed,’” he told Zoiks! Online. “I’m hitting the studio on the 3rd of November, and we’re going to finish it this year. I think I’m leaning towards putting a full album out. There songs are just flowing out so I think we’re going to go full length, but yeah it’ll be released in the spring.”

Welch is currently on the road with Christian rock and metal colleagues RED, Echoes the Fall and Icon for Hire. “It’s going good so far,” he said. “I love being the support act, right before the headliner [RED]. That’s the perfect slot. We’re really stoked to be out here.” The jaunt finishes up Tuesday (Oct. 26) in Atlanta.

What shenanigans has Welch dished out to fans on tour? “[It’s] just crazy,” he said. “On this tour, especially, because we don’t really have any down time, so it’s just all energy, the whole show. Pits and people floating on the crowd and everything, it’s awesome.” He also promises a corresponding video for, “Paralyzed,” will drop any day. “We just finished a video for ‘Paralyzed,’” he said. “I got the final cut today, so that’s going to be released soon.”
