Dave Grohl’s Advice for Bands: ‘Go Play Live’

Dave Grohl says aspiring garage bands should simply hit the road and play live music
Dave Grohl seems like the ultimate guy to give band advice. After all, Grohl not only played drums in what’s arguably the biggest rock band of all time, Nirvana, but he started his own band, Foo Fighters, which hasn’t done too shabby, either.
So, it made perfect sense for OffCamera host Sam Jones to ask Grohl for some musical advice for a hypothetical garage band that had penned some killer songs. What should such a band do to get signed, get noticed by the industry or work social media?
Grohl’s answer is simple. “Go play live,” he said. “Just play live! I don’t understand the industry. I don’t understand where music is headed. I don’t really understand technology…I just know that when you walk into a club and you see a band that blows you away, you are gonna follow that band.”
Right now, Grohl is busy working on the follow-up to Foo Fighters’ 2011 Grammy Award-winning smash “Wasting Light.” He’s also gearing up to attend the latest Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony on April 10 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., where he and the members of Nirvana will be inducted into the Rock Hall.
