Deftones frontman says new music should be out by early fall

As reported earlier this week, alt-metallers Deftones are have announced that they’re starting work on their upcoming full-length, the follow-up to 2010’s “Diamond Eyes.” Speaking with Buenos Aires, Argentina, radio station Vorterix Rock 103.1 this week, Deftones frontman Chino Moreno fleshed out more details about the upcoming album, and he says it should arrive in stores and online by this September or October.

“We start recording next week… I love it. I’m so excited about it, because Deftones, obviously that’s my life,” Moreno said. “I’ve made a career since I was 15 years old. And right now, right before I came last week, we finished up all the writing. So, next week, when I get back, we start recording, and we should have a record that comes out in the early fall… Maybe October… Maybe September.”

Moreno is currently out playing a few shows with his side project, Crosses. When asked about the difference between working on a band like Crosses verses Deftones, he explained that it’s more of a challenge to make Crosses fly. “ …It’s a challenge to do something different,” he said. “I mean, believe me, with Deftones, I love it. It’s still a challenge, I guess, as well, but at the same time I know that there’s a lot of confidence, because I know that everybody knows us and stuff, and I’m very happy doing that, too. But, with me, I like to be challenged and try different things. To do this, like I said before, I feel very blessed to be able to do this and try it, and why not?”
