Evanescence adds heavy guitars and a glorious orchestra to their cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain”

Evanescence is back with a brand new cover of the Fleetwood Mac song “The Chain,” which they recorded for the video game “Gears 5.” It’s the first bit of new music the band has released since their 2017 studio album, “Synthesis.”

Like “Synthesis,” which featured Evanescence songs accompanied by a full orchestra, “The Chain” features a grand orchestra, along with heavy guitars and rhythms. Lee and company add a gothic touch to the song, with the beautiful orchestra and Lee’s taunting vocals.

“And if you don’t love me now / You will never love me again / I can still hear you saying / You would never break the chain,” Lee screams out in the crashing chorus.

The song builds to a huge bridge with loud, chaotic drums, followed by Lee coming in, crooning, “Chain keep us together.” Then, the track dies down as it fades away.

“This cover was so fun to make. We love Fleetwood Mac and wanted to paint a dark and epic picture with our take on ‘The Chain,'” Lee said about “The Chain” in a statement. “The lyrics make me feel the power of standing together against great forces trying to pull us apart, perhaps even from the inside. I really wanted to drive that home in our version, and even made everyone in the band sing by the end of it! We’re beyond excited to share this with our fans and I’m really looking forward to playing it live.”

Next up for Evanescence, the band will hit Europe for a major tour with Within Temptation. View Evanescence’s full roster of tour dates here. Audio Ink song rating: 9/10.
