Billy Corgan: Don’t Smash Any Pumpkins on Halloween [VIDEO]
Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan gets into the Halloween spirit
When you’re the frontman of a band called the Smashing Pumpkins, it’s a given that you’re going to get some silly puns and groan-inducing jokes thrown at you around Halloween. That being said, Pumpkins throat Billy Corgan was recently asked to sign — what else? — a pumpkin, just for the creepy holiday. Of course, the always-witty singer was a good sport about it. Watch Corgan’s video message via MusicRadar.com, below.
“Hello, this is Billy Corgan for MusicRadar.com,” he starts, before inserting a bit of Corgan’s typical teasing into the tape. “I’ve been asked to do a lot of shameless things to promote my music over the years. This may be the worst. I’m about to sign a pumpkin. I wasn’t really given much choice, so I’m a total sell-out here, signing the pumpkin. So, you can watch me sign the pumpkin.”
He goes on to sign the pumpkin with the slogan, “Death to False Metal,” which Corgan calls the band’s “slogan around here.” We’re not sure if that was a reference to Weezer’s collection of unreleased tracks which dropped in 2010 under the moniker, Death to False Metal, but it’s a good guess. Then, Billy continued the inking process, signing a few more tidbits, including his name and finally, “Smashing Pumpkins; that’s our band.”
He clinched the just-over one minute film with some sound, old-fashioned advice from Papa Billy. “Have a happy and safe Halloween. And please — don’t smash any pumpkins.” Corgan also recently denounced break-up rumors, stating that the Pumpkins have zero plans to splinter or smash anytime soon.
