Sevendust’s Clint Lowery Talks New Album – Uproar Chat [Interview]
Guitarist of metal outfit Sevendust checks in from the Uproar Tour
A Sevendust show roars and rocks like no other, with meaty, chug-a-lug guitar riffs and Lajon Witherspoon’s soul-drenched vocals. The Atlanta chaps wrap up their run on the 2011 Rockstar Energy Drink Uproar Tour Friday (Oct. 14), and guitarist Clint Lowery checked in with Audio Ink Radio to let us in on the fun of Uproar and what to expect from Sevendust’s next album.
What’s the best thing about doing a big festival, such as Uproar, compared to a regular club show?
I really like getting our band out there to different people, and I think my favorite thing about it is the fact it’s a competitive kind of thing. You play with these other bands and you get to go head-to-head with them in a way. I don’t think it’s a competition, but you want to do well. It’s really friendly, but for us, we’re always proving ourselves. We’re always trying to show we’re still valid and we have something to offer. For me, it’s looking forward to another fight, like a boxer.
What do you think makes Uproar special?
Well, it’s basically two stages, and all the bands are a good collective of a few different styles. There’s nothing really exaggerated about the bands or the demographic. Everything is basically rock, heavy rock and a little metal. I think it’s just a good rock tour. It’s not dead in the middle of summer, so people won’t be dying out in the heat. It’s a more of a chill, comfortable listening atmosphere.
Members of Sevendust have said you’ll work on a new album after Uproar, and then there are also rumors of a hiatus. If Sevendust goes onto record another album, what should we expect from the new tracks?
I think the next record will be very programmed, very metal, very progressive and a lot more technical than the albums we’ve had before. It will be fun to really challenge ourselves that way. (Photo credit: Jeremy Adamo.)
