Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan Releases Free Christmas Song
Smashing Pumpkins celebrate Christmas with ‘Have Faithe, Be Merrie’
Smashing Pumpkins main guy Billy Corgan is offering up a Christmas gift for members of the band’s Smashing Pumpkins Record Club: a new Christmas song, done Pumpkins style. The track, “Have Faithe, Be Merrie,” is available for free download for members of the club, and the club is free to join. Corgan tweeted the news yesterday (Dec. 24): “There’s a new SP Christmas song up (for free) for all Smashing Pumpkin Record Club members. Join and it’s yours!” Listen to the track via the YouTube player, below.
Corgan and the Pumpkins also thanked fans via a message on the Record Club’s website: “As a thank you for supporting the Smashing Pumpkins Record Club (SPRC) this year, Billy went digging in the vaults and found this beautiful holiday song called Have Faithe, Be Merrie. We hope you enjoy it!”
He added that there’s “so much in store for you in 2012, from the new album Oceania to the EMI Reissues to special SPRC offers and exclusives. Hint: We’ve seen songs from Pisces Iscariot, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, Adore, pre-Gish demos and “the Rubano Tapes” being worked on in the studio. We will make some cool stuff that you can only get at www.smashingpumpkins.com and other fun places online. And last but not least, there’s been some talk of a very special tour for next year… ”
Corgan recently contemplated changing the band’s legendary name next year, just in time for the release of Oceania. Only time will tell if the idea sticks, but he says that along with the positive reaction he’s getting to tracks on Oceania, industry friends are telling him it might be time to step out as a new project.
