Wilco Prep for 2012 North American Tour
Chicago country-rock band Wilco will hit the road in January
Wilco have fashioned a solid fan base with their masterful, wildly eclectic brand of alternative country-rock, shot through with aspirations and ideals. The Chicago gentlemen always push their songs to the limit, branching off into a variety of musical styles, from psychedelia to power pop, making Wilco a highly unpredictable band.
Live, Wilco are known for playing one of the highest-octane shows in their genre. The band will return to the road in mid-January, first playing North American venues and then flying off to Europe for several tour dates. Find the tour itinerary, below.
Wilco bass player John Stirratt says that the band’s stylistic variety stems from their wide-ranging musical pedigree. “When we started, we had a traditional country and folk background, and we also had our ears open to what was going on in independent rock in the ‘80s: loud guitars and bands like Dinosaur Jr. and Sonic Youth,” Stirratt told Audio Ink. “We were also fans of first-wave punk, and it all came out in our music in a way that wasn’t very overt. It just happens that way: The songs you write reflect your record collection.”
The Chicago outfit’s eighth studio album, The Whole Love, came out in September. The collection, which is nominated for Best Rock Album in the 54th Grammy Awards, is Wilco’s first on their own record label, dBpm.
