Sonic Youth Bass Player Kim Gordon Announces New Body/Head Double Album
Kim Gordon and Bill Nace readying Body/Head release, ‘Coming Apart’
Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth fame has new music on the way, as the talented musician is gearing up to release a new double-album with her Body/Head project, set to arrive in the US on Sept. 10 and in the U.K. and Europe on Sept. 16. The release will come in CD, digital and double-vinyl varieties.
Following Gordon and her husband, Sonic Youth band made Thurston Moore, announcing their separation in 2011, Gordon joined forces with Bill Nace to launch the noise guitar project. Up until now, Body/Head’s songs received limited release, but for this upcoming set, “Coming Apart,” they’ve inked with Matador Records.
The new release is a bit different for Body/Head, which started primarily instrumental and now highlights Gordon’s vocals.
“Initially their approach was almost entirely instrumental — lattices of interwoven feedback rainbows, with bits recalling everyone from Heldon to Keiji Haino,” Matador said in an official statement. “Kim’s voice began creeping into the mix soon after, and the vocals now have become an intrinsic part of their musical architecture.”
He added, “They have even started writing and playing ‘songs’ now, compositionally distinct from their purely aleatory origins, but still featuring lots of built-in improvisational space.”
