AWOLNATION’s ‘Sail’ is one of the top 10 longest-charting singles on the Billboard Hot 100 chart

AWOLNATION’s hit “Sail” has been going strong ever since the song hit the airwaves in 2011, and now, the Aaron Bruno-fronted band has bragging rights that the song has made the top 10 list of the longest-charting singles on the Billboard Hot 100. “Sail” has enjoyed a whopping 62 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 chart at this point and has pushed over 4. 1 million downloads, reports Nielsen SoundScan.

“I never actually expected people to hear the song at all,” Aaron Bruno sold Billboard about the song. “When I wrote it, I had thrown in the towel as far as anticipating any kind of commercial success.”

“Sail” first broke onto the Hot 100 chart in September of 2011 and has been on there ever since. The tune is currently No. 17 spot on the chart, its highest spot yet. That also makes “Sail” the first song on the Hot 100 to ever reach its top position after being on the chart for over a year.

Two other alternative rock bands have also secured a spot in the top 10 of the longest-charting singles on the Billboard Hot 100: the Lumineers with “Ho Hey” and Imagine Dragons with “Radioactive.”
