Beck is handling Kanye West’s Grammy criticism with class

Beck was a bit hit at last Sunday night’s Grammy Awards. Not only did he take home the Best Rock Album award for his “Morning Phase” album, but that album also won Album of the Year, beating out popular artists Beyonce and Sam Smith. As Beck walked onto the Grammy stage to accept the Album of the Year trophy, rapper Kanye West walked on stage upset about Beyonce not winning. At first, it looked as if Kanye was only kidding, making a reference to his 2009 MTV VMA performance in which he strutted on the stage after Taylor Swift beat out Beyonce. West wasn’t joking, though.

“I just know is if the Grammys want real artists to keep coming back, they need to stop playing with us,” West told E! Online in reference to Beck’s win. “Beck needs to respect artistry and he should have given his award to Beyoncé, and at this point, we tired of it.”

Beck is handling West’s comments with class. Beck told US Weekly, “I was just so excited (West) was coming up. He deserves to be on stage as much as anybody.  How many great records has he put out in the last five years right?”

Beck added, “You can’t please everybody, man. I still love (West) and think he’s genius. I aspire to do what he does.”
