Linkin Park are remembering their seminal debut, ‘Hybrid Theory,’ with a gift to listeners

Linkin Park scored big with their debut album, “Hybrid Theory,” and ended up selling more than 10 million copies of the rap-rock opus. Now, the band is looking back at that fond time in their trajectory and offering a download of the album for free. Through March 18, “Hybrid Theory” will be offered as a free download on the Google Play store.

“Our first album, Hybrid Theory, was made with all the love, passion and naivete that an artist can give to their first recordings,” Linkin Park said in a statement. “We are humbled and grateful that it has been embraced so widely, and we still find it hard to believe it became the biggest selling rock album of the century.”

Linkin Park released “Hybrid Theory” in 2000. The album put Linkin Park on the map with the hit alternative rock singles “In the End,” “One Step Closer” and “Crawling.” They followed up “Hybrid Theory” with 2003’s “Meteora,” which produced more hits, including “Somewhere I Belong,” “Faint” and “Numb.”

Linkin Park are currently writing and recording their seventh studio album, which will mark their follow-up to 2014’s “The Hunting Party.”
