From the release of their 10th studio album to a U.S. headlining tour, Skillet had a big 2016

A slew of great rock bands were active in 2016, but one stood out to our staff because of this band’s unwavering commitment to its mission, message and fans. It’s a band that has been rocking it since the ‘90s, rarely taking a breath, and who released its 10th studio album this year.

We’re talking about Skillet– Audio Ink Radio’s top rock band of 2016. The Nashville, Tennessee, Christian hard rockers returned with a fresh album of originals called “Unleashed” in 2016, and the set continues along the band’s path of hard rock anthems that appeal to the mainstream but don’t shy away from their faith. The album debuted at No. 1 on the Christian Albums and Hard Rock Albums charts in August, and it also entered the Billboard 200 chart at No. 3.

Skillet – which includes vocalist and bass player John Cooper, his wife, keyboardist and rhythm guitarist Korey Cooper, guitarist Seth Morrison and drummer Jen Ledger – also embarked on a North American headlining tour in 2017, dubbed the “Unleashed Tour.” The trek – which sold out many venues – had the band performing new songs off “Unleashed,” as well as a career-spanning range of Skillet tunes.

John Cooper recently spoke with Audio Ink Radio about his mission for Skillet. It’s a simple but powerful one.

“I hope to spread my message that no matter who you are or where you come from and how useless you may feel, God is with you and that God does love you,” he said. “That’s something I’m very passionate about, and I do hope people feel that.”

What’s next for Skillet in 2017? The band is already slated to play a range of U.S. music festivals next year. Keep up with their journey via Skillet.com.
